DOT-Verified Load Board: Every Carrier FMCSA-Checked at Signup and Before Every Bid
If you've ever had a load go sideways because the "carrier" turned out to have lapsed insurance, out-of-service authority, or a bad safety record nobody bothered to look up — Stretch XL Freight is built the other way. We check FMCSA SAFER at signup, re-check before every bid, and show the live record next to every offer.
Most load boards treat carrier verification as a checkbox at signup and never look at it again. The result: on any given day, tens of thousands of carriers are still listed and able to bid even though their insurance expired last month, their authority went out-of-service, or their CSA safety score crossed a red line. Shippers don't find out until a no-show, a damaged load, or worse — a claim with no insurance to back it.
A DOT-verified load board fixes that by treating FMCSA SAFER as a live data source, not a one-time signup form. Every carrier gets re-checked before each bid surfaces. Every bid the shipper sees comes with the carrier's current insurance status, authority status, and safety score visible right on the bid card — so the decision isn't made on rate alone.
How Stretch XL Freight verifies (the actual mechanics)
Three layers of verification, every one tied to live FMCSA data:
Layer 1 — Signup gate
Carrier enters DOT number + MC number. We hit FMCSA SAFER in real time. Inactive authority, out-of-service status, or revoked broker bond = signup blocked. No subscription accepted, no dashboard access granted.
Layer 2 — Pre-bid re-check
Every time a carrier submits a bid on a shipper's load, we re-verify their SAFER record against FMCSA's current data. Authority change since their last bid? The bid is held until they update.
Layer 3 — On the bid card
The shipper sees the carrier's live insurance, authority status, safety score, and on-platform rating right on the bid card — at the moment of decision. No tab-switching to FMCSA SAFER to double-check.
Layer 4 — Post-acceptance monitor
Between acceptance and pickup, if a carrier's authority flips to Inactive or OOS, we alert you and re-post the load to other vetted carriers automatically. You're never charged the platform fee on a load that didn't move because of a status change.
What a verified bid card actually looks like
When carrier bids land on your load, here's exactly what you see on each one:
That bid card is the entire decision. You don't need to open FMCSA SAFER in another tab. You don't need to call the carrier to ask if their insurance is current. You don't need to wonder whether their MC was revoked last week. The shipper picks the carrier they prefer based on rate + carrier rating + FMCSA SAFER record, side-by-side. No counter-quote step on our side — the shipper decides, we lock the rate, the signed BOL goes to the driver.
What gets a carrier auto-excluded from your bid list
The shipper never sees a bid from any carrier with:
- Inactive operating authority — the carrier's MC has been deactivated, voluntarily revoked, or administratively revoked.
- Out-of-Service (OOS) status — FMCSA has flagged the carrier or their equipment as unsafe to operate. OOS designations are public and machine-readable.
- Unsatisfactory safety rating — fewer than 1% of carriers get this rating, and they shouldn't be hauling your freight.
- Lapsed insurance — either coverage expired or coverage limit dropped below the federally required minimum ($750K for general freight, $1M+ for hazmat).
- Revoked broker bond — for carriers who also broker, a revoked $75K BMC-84 bond auto-excludes their broker side from posting loads.

Who a DOT-verified board is for
- Shippers who've been burned by an unvetted broker or no-show carrier and want to verify the next one isn't going to repeat it.
- Small brokers who don't have time to manually run SAFER checks on every carrier bidding on their loads.
- High-value or high-risk freight — anything where a lapsed-insurance claim would be catastrophic (heavy equipment, hazmat, refrigerated pharma, white-glove).
- Carriers who keep clean records and want it to matter — sharp SAFER data is a competitive advantage on our platform. Carriers running clean win more loads because shippers see the difference.
