What are live freight lane rates?

Live freight lane rates are the median market price for freight transported between a specific origin and destination, calculated from real loads posted on freight load boards within the last 24 hours. Our tool aggregates rates from TruckerPath, Truckstop, and 123Loadboard (pulled every 3 minutes) plus our own direct-shipper feed, filters to your exact origin city/state → destination city/state lane, and returns median rate, low/high range, and per-mile pricing with sample count. Free, no login required.

How it works

📡

3-min refresh

🎯

Lane-exact match

We filter to your exact origin city/state → destination city/state pair, not a 300-mile radius. Real rates for your real lane.

What's a fair freight rate, anyway?

A rate is "fair" when both shipper and carrier see median market — neither paying broker spread nor underbidding their costs. Most rate calculators give you a national average, which can be 25%+ off in either direction on a specific lane during a busy week. Live lane rates capture what's actually transacting today.

The catch: most shippers don't have live load-board data, and most carriers see only their own board. We aggregate four feeds + our own direct-shipper loads, so the number you see is closer to true market mid than anything you'd find on a single board.

Frequently asked

How are these live lane rates calculated?

Every 3 minutes our load-board warmer pulls fresh loads from TruckerPath, Truckstop, and 123Loadboard. When you enter a lane, we filter the last 24 hours of loads to the exact origin city/state → destination city/state pair, then compute median rate, low/high range, $/mile, and sample count. Real published rates from real loads.

Why are the rates different from a freight rate calculator?

A calculator uses national averages by equipment type. Live lane rates reflect what brokers and carriers are actually transacting on your specific lane right now — capacity, fuel, weather, holidays, all baked in. Usually within 15% of a same-day bookable price.

What happens if my lane has no recent live data?

We surface a national per-mile estimate for the equipment type instead, clearly marked "Estimated" in the UI. For an actual bookable price, request a live quote — we'll pull competing carrier bids on your lane in 60 seconds.

Is there a free API?

Yes. The web tool is free (10 lookups/IP/hour). For higher volume — TMS integrations, freight analytics, automation — get an API key at /developers/. Free 100/day, Starter $29/mo 5K/mo, Pro $99/mo 50K/mo, Enterprise custom.

What data sources back this?

TruckerPath, Truckstop, 123Loadboard, plus Stretch XL Freight's own direct-shipper loads. The mix depends on the lane. Every API response includes a /sources field showing the breakdown.

Need an actual bookable price?

Live rates show market median. For an actual bookable price on your specific shipment, we pull competing carrier bids on your lane in 60 seconds.
